Maes Hughes, holding the picture of his wife Gracia and their daughter Elicia

Edward Elric, making promises with his brother to get their missing bodies back
OK, after watching this first episode of Full Metal Alchemist 2, I have kind of a mixed opinion about it. First I’m gonna touch about the voice actors, or seiyuu’s thing for this new Full Metal Alchemist series. In case you don’t already know, all the former seiyuu’s for the first version/season of Full Metal Alchemist have been replaced by the new seiyuu team.
We all have recognized the voice of every single character in the previous Full Metal Alchemist, especially the voices of its two main characters, Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric. Paku Romi was the seiyuu for Edward Elric in the previous Full Metal Alchemist, and she did hella good job for that. She portrayed Edward Elric all in different kinds of situations perfectly, especially when Ed was highly emotional and madly screaming and all. The part that I remember the most is when Ed was trying to talk to Greed, who was then trying to kill himself in Dante’s house. Her job was phenomenal.
I am not sure if the new seiyuu for Edward Elric could bring that to the show. I’m still not sure of that, but I’d say I’d give it a try. Judging from the very first episode of Full Metal Alchemist 2, the seiyuu isn’t that bad, but isn’t that good either. She (or he) portrayed Ed the same way Paku Romi did when Ed was in lighter moods, but I don’t know if she (or he) will maintain that for harder and much tense situations involving Ed.
As for other seiyuu’s, I think it’s considerably okay (except for Roy Mustang’s voice whom I don’t like very much, but that isn’t that important).
So how about the story and plots themselves?
The new series started in what seemingly a tense plot presented in lighter moods, with the military trying to capture a former State Alchemist, whom is an Ice Alchemist named Isaac. I think this actually isn’t the main focus of the story at all. This Ice Alchemist isn’t what this first episode was all about. He’s just the spice. The main thing is to get us remember the brothers (Ed and Al) and the things that we love about them; the jokes and alchemy. It is about “re-introducing” everyone and what associate them with, like Major Armstrong with his big muscles and those shiny pinky little thing that blings blings around him (you know what I mean), and Hughes with his adoring attitude towards his wife and little daughter (carrying and showing everyone the pic of these two), as well as a quick peek at the two humunculous, Lust and Gluttony –things like that.
I’m not sure if this new series would attract new viewers who haven’t seen the previous Full Metal Alchemist anime series, because this first episode certainly don’t have the “glued” factor like the first episode of Full Metal Alchemist 1 had. But it certainly excite former Full Metal Alchemist fans.
We’ve got to wait for a few more episodes until Full Metal Alchemist 2 got a little deep into an arc, before we could say if it blows our minds or if it would suck.
But please, don’t take my word for it. Download Full Metal Alchemist 2 episode 1 below and see it for yourself! Enjoy!

*cough* Of course the new seiyuu for Ed sounds similar to Romi Paku… because it IS Romi Paku. lmao
Rie Kugimiya back this for series as Al too.
Ookawa, as Roy, however, has been replaced. As well as Winry and a few others.
Fujiwara is back as Hughs though.

Yeah, i didn’t know that when i wrote this review. I knew a few days after, but i didn’t bother (actually was too lazy) to change anything in the review. By the way i figured hardcore FMA fans must already know, so..

Draken, as you may already know, the first “season” of FMA was such a hit, and many fans were left disappointed of how quick the show has ended. Apart from that, some fans also left disappointed of HOW the show ended.
For your information, the “first” season started by following the original storyline from the manga, for which it was adapted from. But as you know, anime episodes usually progress faster than manga (well, in manga you only got like 17 pages per WEEK) so halfway of the story, the anime strayed off from the manga storyline and ended on its own. This upsets some of FMA manga followers.
Because of demands, they’re making the NEW version of Full Metal Alchemist and that is what this new Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is all about. It’s not exactly a “remake”, because it WON’T end the same way the first one had. It’s more like a brand new series of Fullmetal Alchemist which will follow the MANGA storyline from START to END.
That was why you see the preview of episode 3 looks just the same like episode 1 in season 1. That’s because that’s how the manga started. Though, you’ll see how the story will progress differently than what we already saw in the season 1.
I hope that explains it.

Yea Admin is right, it is spose to follow the story line of the manga, idk how well it is going to (i hope exactly every detail) but i guess we will just have to wait and see
